Staring from Beijing, a two-hour drive along Jingcheng express way will take you to Jinshanling Great Wall, the best part of the Great Wall, always praised as“the Great Wall stretches for 10,000 li, but the Jinshanling section is the most beautiful. The top three things to see are the obstacle walls, carved bricks and stones to stop horses. This is also the place for teenagers to conduct extracurricular activities. You can have lunch in the farmhouse near the Great Wall.
In the afternoon you can drive for 1.5 hours along Guangda express way to visit Chengde Mountain Resort and the Surrounding Temple. The grand royal garden, first built in 1703, was for the Qing Emperors to avoid summer heat and deal with state affairs. There are more than 100 different buildings like halls, towers, temple, palaces, pavilions and so on, with the most prominent feature being gardens and the mountains become an integrated unit. You can also visit the temples like Puning Temple, Anyuan Temple and Guangyuan Temple. You can stay in Chengde for dinner and accommodation.
D2: Chengde--Eastern Qing Tombs in Zunhua--the Grand Canal From Bejing to Hangzhou-Tongzhou Section--Beijing
Starting from Chengde, drive along Changshen express way and Bangkuan Line, within two hours you will arrive at Eastern Qing Tombs. The World Cultural Heritage is the largest, best preserved and distributed royal extant mausoleum complex in our country, and here you can visit the Xiao Tomb, Jing Tomb, Yu Tomb, Ding Tomb and Hui Tomb. Lunch can be found in the nearby farmhouses.
Then we can spend the afternoon along the Grand Canal, which enjoys a long history of water transport, storage and kept many cultural sites. It shows the achievement of ancient hydrotechnics and shipping . here you can also take a boat to admire the scenery along the canal and learn about its influences in ancient city development and after that you can return to Beijing.
