Manchu Embroidery

Man Embroidery, or Manchu Embroidery, known as needle embroidery, stitched embroidery, or embroidered flower, was originally popular among the rural areas of Manchu ethnic groups. Their way of making embroidery is to use the homemade cloth as the base, applying colourful threads with a steel needle to stitch different patterns.

Manchu Embroidery originated from the leather embroidery during the hunting and fishing activities of their ancestors the Jurchen people. Then the Manchu people changed to farming life, so leather embroidery was replaced by textile embroidery, but some techniques like opposite stitch, cross stitch and satin stitch are retained.
