Fugang apple got its name because it originates from Fugang Village(the former Gangdi Village) in the deep of the Taihang mountain. All the factors like fresh air, affluent sunshine, and large temperature difference contribute to the accumulation of carbohydrate. The soil is alkaline and contains elements like phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, and the quality index of the apple is higher than the national average. The flesh is crispy with few fibers and fine texture.
Fugang apple won the silver medal in Kunming World Expo in 1999 ; the production base is rated as the National Demonstration Area for Agricultural Standardization by National Standardization Administration; the apple was awarded China’s Famous Fruit in 2006; Fugang Village built the first traceability system of food security in 2007; and in 2008, the apple became one of the exclusive fruits for the Olympic Games.
